Description
The Church of Madonna delle Grazie, close to the cemetery of Caso, dates to the 14th-16th centuries. It is probably a shrine, which was later enlarged.
At the centre of the bottom wall it is possible to clearly distinguish a small primitive chapel, the origin of which is remembered by the curious image of the Madonna on horseback, a 15th century fresco with the explanatory inscription: IN QUISTU PPIU LOCU APAR[U]E LA VER[GI]NE MARIA E QUESTA FO[R]MA CHE STA DEPE[N]TA A CAVALLU ET CHAMO (chiamò) QUISTU MAMULU (bambino) ET POI SCAVALCO ET PIATO (presolo) LU BENEDISSE (In this holy place the Virgin Mary appeared on horseback, she called the child, came down from the horse, took him and blessed him).
The entire space is one of the most important examples of a sacred building in a rural environment. It is entirely covered by frescoes (paintings of the 15th and 16th centuries, some of which are from the Spagna workshop).
